What Is Included in a Residential Framing Plan?
Framing plans communicate the intended arrangement of floors, roofs, openings, beams, and bearing conditions so architectural design and construction strategy stay coordinated.
Typical framing information
Depending on scope, drawings may show joist or truss direction, bearing lines, major beams, headers, openings, floor elevations, roof framing intent, and references to related sections or details.
Coordination value
A framing layout helps identify conflicts among stairs, plumbing paths, open rooms, roof geometry, and mechanical needs before construction. It also gives builders, truss suppliers, and engineers a clearer coordination base.
Framing plans and engineering
Framing drawings do not replace calculations or sealed structural documents when those are required. Project location, loading, spans, materials, and local review determine what must be designed by a qualified engineer.
