Can a Stock House Plan Be Modified?

Most stock plans can be adjusted, but the right process depends on licensing, source files, structural impact, and how far the revised design moves from the original.

Common plan modifications

Frequent requests include moving walls, changing room sizes, adding a garage or porch, adjusting windows, revising the exterior style, and adapting a foundation to site or builder needs.

What makes a change more involved

Moving stairs, changing bearing lines, reworking roof geometry, or significantly altering the footprint can affect many sheets. A coordinated update is more than changing one floor-plan drawing.

What to provide

Share the complete plan set, proof of the right to modify it, editable source files if available, a marked-up request list, and known site or jurisdiction requirements. This supports an accurate scope before work starts.
